parting words

Vintage slang is the cat’s pajamas.

When it’s time to leave wherever we are, I often say to the kids, “let’s jet.”

Recently, my wife mentioned that she’s never known anyone else who uses “jet” that way.

I’ve since caught myself saying “I gotta jet” in work meetings, so clearly it’s deeply ingrained in my lexicon.

I polled my extended family, and while some were vaguely aware of the expression, they didn’t know anyone who uses it regularly.

Now I’m having a full-on Mandela Effect moment — I’ve been saying what I thought was a very common phrase for years, only to learn that it’s not something most people say.

So I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out where I picked it up. A person? A show? A movie?

If you have any information, please call 1-802-LETS-JET.
