A window to the past…

Looking at the past me looking at the future.

In eighth grade, my teacher had the students in the class answer a different journal question every day in our notebook. As I cleaned my room this afternoon, I found that journal… Here are my favorite entries:

September 9, 1998
Q: What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?
A: I hope to be at college studying computer science.
Heh, I didn’t exactly go in that direction.

September 16, 1998
Q: Would you rather live in a warm or cold climate?
A: I would rather live in a warm climate because I could go swimming every day and I could wear shorts which are more comfortable than pants.
Man, I couldn’t disagree with myself more!

November 12, 1998
Q: What is the hardest decision young people have to make?
A: The hardest choice for young people is what to do with their time. Should they go to a friend’s house, or should they do their homework? It is hard for time scheduling.
Even then, the topic of time management was an issue for me.

January 6, 1999
Q: What is your New Years Resolution?
A: My New Years’ Resolution is not to be so lazy.
Heh, I think that’s my resolution every year.

January 20, 1999
Q: Never in the world would _______ happen to me. Why?
A: Never in the world would pregnancy happen to me because I would not be subject to a strange experiment.
I think I made this entry shortly after seeing the movie Junior.

February 3, 1999
Q: What do you want your classmates to remember about you?
A: I want my classmates to remember the thrilling songs I create. Those songs will top the charts in 10 years, you know.
I don’t even remember what songs I’m talking about, but it seems like no matter what stage of my life I’m in, I’m always making up ridiculous songs.

March 8, 1999
Q: How do you feel about the proficiency tests now that they are over?
A: Now that the proficiency tests are over, I feel relieved. Even if I did not pass them all, I know what they are like, and I learned from taking them.
Typical Ross answer.

March 25, 1999
Q: If you could be a genius in one area, which would you choose?
A: If I could be a genius in one area, I would be a genius in Mathematics, because a lot of occupations require mathematical knowledge.
I’m not sure exactly which occupations I was referring to, but yeah.

May 24, 1999
Q: What about you would you want to be remembered for?
A: I hope I am remembered for making people laugh.
I suppose this is because laughter is a good feeling, and so if people remember as making them laugh, they’ll have fond memories of me? I dunno.

Anyway, back to reorganizing!

current mood: good

current music: Tom Petty – You Don’t Know How It Feels
