Is this like, a death note thing? I bring back my journal and suddenly I can’t sleep and have to write instead? Time for a throwback eclectic mix of topics —
I’ve heard the phrase “you can’t go home again” but never really knew what it meant until recently. I find myself feeling like I’m in an episode of Quantum Leap (if only I were as handsome and talented as Scott Bakula).
I’ve been grasping at straws to scratch the itch of reconnection.. but it’s like going back to your grade school ten years later, and suddenly the hallways are way narrower and everything feels way smaller than it did before.
Top 5 songs whose lyrics you’d find quoted in my AIM away message in 2003:
- Dashboard Confessional – Saints and Sailors (and a dozen other Dashboard songs)
- The Starting Line – The Best Of Me
- The Early November – Ever So Sweet
- Motion City Soundtrack – When “You’re” Around
- Third Eye Blind – Motorcycle Drive By
I have an entire binder of mix CDs I made for my drives back in the day… it was a fun exercise to select the perfect mix of songs that fit into that 80 minutes and take you on just the right journey. Unlimited playlists are overrated.
And speaking of CDs, I miss hidden tracks… when the last song would end, but the track time display would keep going, and something new and unexpected would start. Hidden tracks were the best kind of secrets, because they were secrets that were meant to be discovered.
This is just me saying “hi”. And kind of acknowledging how we’ve both sort of got those lives we always talked about wanting.
This is only the beginning.
